In 2011, I decided I was ready to take the leap and start my first business.

I knew I couldn’t do it without support. So, I invested in my first group coaching program . The program I signed up for was a 4-month long program exclusive for 8 women.

I signed up because I was tired of guessing and trying to figure things out on my own. I had such a big desire to build my business and finally start contributing in the world the way that I knew I was meant to. This program was speaking to me at such a deep level, I knew I needed to join.

I invested $25,000 to join this program. This $25,000 was all of my savings. I was terrified, I’ve never invested so much money on myself before but there was a strong voice inside that told me I had to go for it. And I listened to it.

Then a month later I got pregnant.

When I found out I was pregnant all my fears about not having enough money came to the surface. The uncertainty of not knowing how I was going to cover the expense of the pregnancy completely overwhelmed me. Two months into it, I lost the pregnancy very brutally (ectopic pregnancy). I had to be rushed to the hospital and have emergency surgery.

I could’ve died.

It was devastating.

After the fear and the loss all I felt was guilt.

I felt so guilty for being scared of having a baby.

I felt guilty for having used all of my savings. Having a baby had always been one of my dreams.

My coach and the women in that program stood next to me in my darkest days.

They helped me navigate the grief, uncertainty, loss and guilt that had consumed me. They helped me stop punishing myself. These women held a space for me to heal. They also helped me start my business the way I had intended to all along.

When I rose above the pain and loss, I was able to see the gift of the program.

At the time of the program I was working at a spa. I had been there for seven years. Each day I dreamed more and more about what it would be like to be off on my own.

This program and these women helped me get the confidence to stop working at the spa. They gave me the courage to open my own skincare practice. Through this skincare practice I could introduce elements of coaching and offer a bigger service than just cleaning skin.

I helped women see their beauty. I helped them FEEL beautiful.

As you know I later moved on to be a coach. As I coach I still help women see their beautiful and powerful selves. But now it has less to do with skin and more to do with soul.

My skincare business was a brilliant stepping stone. It formed everything about my coaching business today.

Had I stayed in the pain and not allowed myself to be supported through the emotional piece (the feminine work), I am not sure where I would be today.

• I know for certain, I would not have been able to step into my power the way I did and open my practice just a few short months after the loss…

• I know for certain I would not have been able to make close to six-figures my first year of business.

• I know for certain I would not have been able to forgive myself.

When many of us are building our businesses or going for our dream career we get tunnel vision. We forget to look at our life as a whole. We forget about dreams of travel. We forget about dreams of babies. We forget about our romantic relationships. We forget how we used to love to dance.

We think massages, pedicures and going out with the girlfriends isn’t a given anymore. It is a luxury.  It is a pleasure that should only be had as a reward.

We think I will enjoy my life when…I make six-figures. I get that one client. I finish this or that project. I get my dream promotion.

I’m here to tell you pleasure isn’t meant to be had someday. You are meant to enjoy your life today. You don’t need to wait to love your life.

That is what doing life and business the feminine way is about. It is about making money, helping others, honoring your boundaries, having fun with family and friends, celebrating your body and beauty through self-care and dancing whenever the hell you feel like it.

Sometimes we just need to be reminded….and held accountable for it.
